This is a handcrafted wooden canteen made to look like it was constructed in the field during the Revolutionary War. Copper tacks hold the cedar sapling splits that encircle the canteen in place. The spout and stopper are turned on the wood lathe. The stopper is attached with a piece of artificial sinew. The interior has been sealed with paraffin, again, authentic to the period.
The front surface is carved with an American Bald Eagle holding a shield in the style of 18th century folk art. Dowel pegs hold on the front and back. It has a leather strap that is adjustable from approximately 55″ to 60″. Need it shorter? Just poke more holes.
The canteen measures 5 1/4″ across, 2″ deep and holds 1 cup. Just like what the Minute Man Militia carried.
